Retirement Joys

Unlike the fellow up the street, who cannot figure out what to do with himself now that he is retired, we manage to fill each and every week with lots and lots of things to keep us busy.  Take, for example, this past week.  The weather was predicted to be mostly sunny and temperatures in the 70's, so why not?  We just cancelled a few things and called and made an RV reservation nearby and took off.
We especially chose this locale because we could take our bicycles and get in some practice miles.  As we are once again planning a cycling holiday in the Netherlands we have to get ourselves ready to ride for (almost) 2 weeks.

Right along the top of that little grass slope is the Green River Trail.  On Wednesday we rode north for 3.5 miles until we ran into a detour - thus 7 miles total.  Thursday after some dinner prep. we headed south along one of the northwest's nicest trails, in my opinion.  It isn't crowded like the Burke Gilman, it is well maintained and scenic.

We went past the golf course and even got a view of "our" mountain.  On the way back we took a bit of a detour into the Green River Natural Resource Area.  It is actually a paved path to allow access to the electrical towers, but made for a very fine biking trail.  And there we found these viewing towers.

Great view from the top.  We could even see flights into Sea-Tac arriving.  14 miles total for Thursday. That evening some RV friends who live nearby came for some supper and we had a lovely evening eating at our picnic table.

Friday morning the campground made and served pancakes (thus no dishes), we packed up and even with some traffic through downtown we were home before 2pm.  GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!

A very tiny bit of sewing has been going on.  More on the sweatshirt jacket, a block for a quilt for a friend facing cancer, again and a CTA pillowcase.  Mostly we are getting ready for a number of houseguests.  Tomorrow is the Camp Fire moving-up to Horizon Club for sweet Emma.  Both her mama and I have done that, so it will be a very special time.

Oh how fortunate we are.

  1. You sure know how to fill your days with fun things. Some pictures look a bit like Holland, too bad we don't have any mountains. Looks like the weather is nice too. Hope it will stay that way for a while.......
